Coming Soon — Demon Healer Naberius: Volume Three!

Coming Soon — Demon Healer Naberius: Volume Three!

Aye, siwmae, and good day to you.

I hope you’re doing well, dear reader. The world continues to turn and evolve, yet like a seasonal flu, I’ve arisen once again to entreat you.

Or something.

I don’t know—that analogy sounded better in my head. Point is, I’m proud to announce that Demon Healer Naberius: Volume Three is currently pending approval for sale with Amazon. Unlike before, I’ve actually got the book finished and sent out before the announcement, so as long as I didn’t fuck up the formatting, you can expect it to be available for purchase in a day or two. And if I did stumble somewhere, you can rest assured that I’ll have it fixed and resubmitted before Bezos knows what hit him.

Following tradition, we have been blessed for a third time with art by the lovely Tostantan! Like last time, he’s provided me with sketches of the new characters you’ll see in Volume Three, so after a general introduction, we’ll go over said cast members.

Introduction

An introduction to Volume One and Demon Healer Naberius in general can be found here. The introduction to Volume Two can be found here.

Volume Three continues the tales of Nabby, Bosa, and their unending fight against the ruthless beast known as ‘modern living’. But while the girls have since reached a level of financial stability, chaos is always lurking, eager to snatch up incautious adventurers who rely on Parti and its gig work. The cooperation between a washed-up idol and a demon who stubbornly asserts herself as a healer has managed to endure the trials such a life imposes so far, but just how strong is that bond? When fate conspires to wedge them apart, will Nabby and Bosa find their partnership to be something worth fighting for?

Following the trends set in prior volumes, Volume Three shares the exploits of our lovable diva and demon across several of the gigs they work, including clearing out a park invaded by fiery salamanders and reclaiming a magnate’s “private den” from the clutches of blood-sucking nosferatu. They’ll team up with various persons of varying circumstances to complete such quests, and once again, the story will feature all the puns, dirty humor, and light drama I love sharing with you all.

Of course, a story is carried by its characters, so let’s dive into meeting some of the cast joining us for Volume Three.

Characters

Morty.jpg

Mortimer MacField

Race: Undead Human

Class: Knight

Age: 32 (His body is stuck at 25)

Likes: Cats, long walks, mobile games, people who tolerate his smell

Dislikes: Swimming, adventuring, his bad eyesight

Skills: Tanking, immunity to pain

Originally a man and a spear fighter, Morty’s body was completely destroyed during a dungeon job, leaving him unable to be resurrected. However, he wasn’t ready to pass on and instead wandered the world as a disembodied spirit. A chance encounter with a lich reanimating zombies in a graveyard then had his spirit unintentionally bound to the fresh corpse of a woman, leaving him in his current state.

Unfortunately, being undead hasn’t been good for Morty. His new body causes him more than a little distress, and he was sued by that body’s family for desecrating the corpse, leaving him in debt. He then found out his party had already replaced him, forcing him to take on tanking duties instead, only to then get let go after they saw how ill-suited Morty’s decrepit body was for defending others. He now lives and works alone, stuck in a body and life he doesn’t want.

As expected, Morty is timid and depressed. He has a hard time talking to people and is very self-conscious of how rotten he smells. He tries to present himself as male, but his face and voice make convincing others difficult, and he hesitates to correct anyone in fear of being further isolated. However, he is still a brave and kind man, and it would only take a little compassion to reignite his spark for life once again.

Bune.jpg

Duke Bune IV

Race: Goetic Demon

Class: Mage Knight

Age: 750 in Rullian years (24 in Hell years)

Likes: Reading, beef, combat practice, her duties as a demon

Dislikes: Gambling, carbonated drinks, embarrassment, electronics

Skills: Unarmed combat, dark magic, various crafts

Nabby’s superior in the ranks of the Goetia and the daughter of the presiding Duke Bune. She has been tasked with bringing Nabby back to Hell, though she is loathe to do so thanks to their history together. Bune was the leader of a group of young demons that bullied Nabby during grade school—only to be severely injured when their victim retaliated. Bune now wishes to cause Nabby an embarrassment that will match the shame she has suffered for so many years.

Bune is the embodiment of her house’s nobility. While the disgrace of being defeated by a lesser demon has stained her life, it has also motivated her to excel at everything she does. She is graceful, talented, and strong—a seemingly perfect example of what every Goetic demon should strive to be.

However, she isn’t as confident as she acts. Bune is deeply afraid of suffering further shame and never being able to regain her pride, and her self-doubt can only be overridden by rage. All she really wants is to no longer feel like a failure, but only time will tell if her encounter with Nabby will soothe or aggravate that anxiety.

Casimir.jpg

Casimir

Race: Dwarf

Class: Assistant/Bartender

Age: 22

Likes: Quiet places, hot chocolate, documentaries

Dislikes: Alcohol, theme parks, his own nervousness

Skills: Mathematics, organization

The assistant working at Nabby and Bosa’s favorite pub, Stummelschwanz. A young college dropout who the owner, Frauke, hired on a whim, he has since become key to the business’ ongoing success—even if he doesn’t realize it. He usually sticks to the back office, but on the rare occasion both Frauke and her husband Felix aren’t available, you can find him nervously tending the bar, all in dedication to the vision that Stummelschwanz is always open to those who need it.

Casimir is skittish and inexperienced, facts further exacerbated by how his job at Stummelschwanz is the first he’s ever had. He often feels lacking when compared to the boisterous Frauke or professionalism-incarnate Felix, but despite his poor confidence, Casimir never fails to meet the expectations set for him. Frauke and her friends have nicknamed him “Cassy”, and he’s become something of a mascot for the pub.

Where can I find Demon Healer Naberius?

Demon Healer Naberius: Volume One is currently available on Amazon in both ebook and paperback formats, priced at $0.99 and $9.99 respectively. Volume Two is available there as well, with its ebook and paperback priced at $2.99 and $9.99 respectively. Volume Three will follow the same pricing structure as Volume Two, with a $2.99 ebook and a $9.99 paperback, and I will fight to the death that all future volumes share this price (barring cataclysmic economic shifts, I suppose).

You can find a more in-depth explanation of the price difference between volumes One and Two near the end of the Volume Two introductory article, and please know that I have no intention of ever raising the prices. As promised, Volume One will always be a $0.99 ebook so that those who are interested in checking out the series can do so with minimal risk.

If you would like to be kept apprised on the release of Demon Healer Naberius: Volume Three, you can follow my Amazon author page or my Twitter, @varnicrast. I’ll have another article announcing as much once it’s ready.

In Closing

Thank you for taking the time to check out Demon Healer Naberius. I hope you liked what you’ve seen here and will look forward to the release of Volume Three. I’m more than a little excited to share what I’ve got for you, and I’ll be sure to let you know when the oven dings and everything’s ready. Until then, keep yourself in good spirits, dear reader, and don’t ever lose your sense of humor.

See ya later, masticater.
